5-23-18 A Letter from Ms. Stroy
Dear Students and Families,
I wanted to take the time to let you all know officially that Ms. Stroy will be returning to her native Ohio for the upcoming school year. While I made the decision to be closer to my loved ones, DATE will also always feel like home. I am so grateful for my experiences here and will miss everyone dearly. Please don't worry it won't be the last you see of me, I intend to visit often. For those interested in staying in touch, I am leaving my personal email address below. I would love to hear from you all. Take care and have a fantastic summer!
Love,
Ms. Stroy

ELA SUMMER BREAK ACTIVITIES
Lexile InformationI sent home an index card with your child's lexile level as of Spring 2018 based on their MAP scores. The card will have a lexile number on it. This means that books at or slightly above or below that lexile are books your child can handle independently. For example if your student has a 427L on their card, they can handle books between 327-527L based on their lexile card. Books below that range are typically far too easy, and books above that range are too difficult. Use your child's lexile level to choose books on MYon, library books or books you intend to purchase for their library at home. Reading books that are too difficult or too easy can stunt growth in reading. Ensure the books you choose are within your child's lexile range in order to produce growth in the area of reading! Some are asking...what is the lexile range for second graders? Or How do I know if my child is reading on level? On level lexiles for 2nd graders are between 420-650L. 3rd graders 520-820L. One more thing...on the lexile card you will notice a mark in yellow highlighter. The mark indicates whether based on their SPRING MAP score if they are reading above, on or below level. If you see a... star- above grade level reader Check- on level reader X- below level reader If you do not receive the card, please let me know via email [email protected] by Wednesday, May 30th. I can send via email. |
